Hello !
Welcome to the Pathpiva site !
You are going to discover pictures of the southern half of France, including Corsica.
We will present both microlepidoptera as moths or butterflies.
We try as much as possible to include pictures of male and female imagos if they show morphological differences, but also of caterpillars and pupae.
To navigate, you have a menu on the left, and the alphabetical list of scientific names on the right.
Some pictures give access to other pictures of the same species, sometimes at different stages of their development.
By clicking on the horizontal arrows, you will be able to see different species of the same kind; on the vertical arrows, different kinds in a given family.
On the left, the menu divided into sections "Microlepidoptera", "Rhopalocera" and "Moths" allows you to see the families directly with a single click. A section "what’s new" allows you to discover the latest species added on this site.
On the right, an alphabetical list will take you directly to the names of family, genus and species. On these pages you will find abbreviations next to the names, here are their meanings:
I imago
O egg
M mine
L1, L2, L3, L4, L5 caterpillar, indicating its state
F case
C cocoon
P pupa
G genitalia
When you are on the page of a species, in any stage, you can click on the name of the family, at the top, and thus return to the page of this family.
At the top of the left menu, a click on "Family" takes you to a photo album page with links for each family present on the site. For genera with many species you will find at the right of the same page a list of photo plates (with links), including all species of this genus that you will find on this site.
We have included maps of species distribution. These maps become visible by clicking on the department name appearing under the picture. Currently, you will find these maps for all the species of the families Autostichidae, Cosmopterigidae, Pyralidae, Tortricidae, Pterophoridae, Crambidae, Micropterigidae, Opostegidae, Nepticulidae, Tischeriidae, Tineidae, Scythrididae, Blastobasidae, Momphidae, Epermeniidae, Gelechiidae and some Gracillariidae. Based on verified data, they give an indication of the distribution but they do not claim to be comprehensive.
Enjoy yourselves !
To find a butterfly, you can type all or part of its Latin name in this field:
It is illusory to consult a photographic website to determine a species, it remains only a way of approaching the subject. After examination of all morphological characteristics (wings, antennae, palps, genitalia ...) only then can it be scientifically identified.
